Samsung SDI’s audited consolidated figures show revenue rising from FY2022 to FY2023 before falling in FY2024. The FY2024 figures use the continuing-business presentation, so they should not be silently combined with the separate discontinued-operations presentation.

FY2022 18,744.5 1,597.8 2,039.4

The balance sheet expanded over the same period, while the reported liabilities-to-equity ratio and return on equity both weakened in FY2024.

Fiscal year Assets (KRW billion) Liabilities (KRW billion) Equity (KRW billion) Liabilities/equity ROE
FY2022 30,257.5 13,040.0 17,217.5 75.7% 12.6%

Samsung SDI Battery Production by Product Line

Samsung SDI’s production statistics are reported in cells, not shipments, installed capacity or energy content. That distinction matters because cells from small-battery, automotive and ESS lines serve different applications and cannot be converted into GWh from these figures alone.

Product line 2021 2022 2023
Small battery (million cells) 1,950 2,172 2,062
Automotive battery (million cells) 105.2 127.2 164.3
ESS battery (million cells) 20.3 20.8 20.6

Automotive-battery production increased from 105.2 million cells in 2021 to 164.3 million in 2023, a reported-endpoint difference of 59.1 million cells. Small-battery output fell by 110 million cells from 2,172 million in 2022 to 2,062 million in 2023, while ESS output moved from 20.8 million to 20.6 million cells.

A simple 2023 sum of the three reported battery lines is 2,075.0 million cells, but this is not a standardized energy-capacity total because the categories have different purposes and cell characteristics. Polarizing-film production, also reported for Samsung SDI Electronic Materials, was 98,802 thousand square metres in 2021, 77,872 thousand in 2022 and 91,321 thousand in 2023; it is not battery production.

Energy Solution and Electronic Materials Data

Energy Solution generated the large majority of Samsung SDI’s reported revenue in each year from FY2022 through FY2024. Electronic Materials is a separate division and includes non-battery materials.

Division and measure FY2022 FY2023 FY2024
Energy Solution revenue (KRW billion) 17,566.2 20,406.1 15,691.2
Energy Solution operating profit (KRW billion) 1,253.8 1,342.4 217.7
Electronic Materials revenue (KRW billion) 1,178.3 1,030.7 901.0
Electronic Materials operating profit (KRW billion) 344.0 203.1 145.6
Total operating margin 8.5% 7.2% 2.2%

For FY2024, the continuing-business release separately reported total revenue of KRW 16.59 trillion and operating profit of KRW 363.3 billion. Including the polarizer-films business as discontinued operations, the release reported FY2024 revenue of KRW 17.88 trillion and operating profit of KRW 446.4 billion; those presentations are not directly comparable.

Samsung SDI Battery Technology, Capacity and Customer Metrics

The available technology data combines observed milestones, a customer-development count and a clearly labeled future capacity expectation. These measures describe development and planned scale rather than a single production total.

  • In 2024, Samsung SDI reported five customers for its all-solid-state battery sample stage; this is a sample-stage customer count, not a commercial-customer or sales measure.
  • In 2024, Samsung SDI began mass production of its P6 premium prismatic battery; the source reports a milestone rather than output volume or energy density.
  • In 2024, Samsung SDI reported mass production and supply of the SBB 1.5 ESS solution; the milestone is not a GWh shipment measure.
  • Around the end of 2026, Samsung SDI expected annual U.S. ESS battery capacity to reach 30 GWh; this is a company forecast, not observed output.

Quarterly results show the battery business under pressure during 2025. Q1 2025 total revenue was KRW 3.18 trillion with an operating loss of KRW 434.1 billion, while battery-business revenue was KRW 2.98 trillion, down 34.9% year on year and 16.4% quarter on quarter.

Samsung SDI Sustainability, Tax and Green-Sales Statistics

Samsung SDI’s sustainability report defines green sales through its EU Taxonomy classification. These figures are company-defined classification measures, not general industry market size or an independent estimate of all environmentally related revenue.

Green sales (KRW billion) 10,946.9 17,566.3 20,406.1
Consolidated pre-tax profit (KRW million) 1,663,335 2,652,275 2,486,144
Corporate tax expense (KRW million) 412,934 612,914 420,097
Effective tax rate 24.83% 23.11% 16.90%
Corporate taxes paid (KRW million) 217,775 278,533 397,830
Cash tax rate 13.09% 10.50% 16.00%

For 2023, the report classified battery business as 89.9% of total sales, 98.5% of capital expenditure and 90.5% of operating expenditure. These are classification-specific shares under the report’s EU Taxonomy framework.

The report also recorded KRW 1,053 million in 2023 contributions to trade associations or tax-exempt groups and zero political-campaign contributions. The contribution categories and political-donation definition follow the report notes.

Samsung SDI Dividends, Stock and Governance Data

Samsung SDI’s FY2024 common-share dividend was KRW 1,000 per share and its preferred-share dividend was KRW 1,050 per share. Total FY2024 dividend payout was KRW 66.9 billion, compared with KRW 66.9 billion in FY2023 and KRW 69.0 billion in FY2022.

Fiscal year Year-end common stock price (KRW/share) EPS (KRW/share) Total dividends (KRW billion)
FY2022 591,000 29,191 69.0
FY2023 472,000 30,044 66.9
FY2024 247,500 8,961 66.9

The FY2024 market-price-to-dividend ratio was 0.4% for common stock and 0.7% for preferred stock, based on year-end price. Samsung SDI’s 2024 board had seven members: three executive directors and four independent directors.

For FY2022–FY2024, the regular shareholder-return policy set a KRW 1,000-per-share dividend basis plus 5%–10% of annual free cash flow; those terms were policy provisions, not a guaranteed total payout. Samsung SDI also stated that no dividend would be paid for FY2025–FY2027 because free cash flow was projected to remain negative during sizable capital expenditure spending, a forward policy statement that can change with future results and decisions.
